独立型PLC有如下特点:
1)独立型PLC具有如下基本的功能结构:CPU及其控制电路,系统程序存储器,用户程序存储器、输入/输出接口电路、与编程机等外部设备通信的接口和电源等
2)独立型PLC一般采用积木式模块化结构或笼式插板式结构,各功能电路多做成独立的模块或印刷电路插板,具有安装方便,功能易于扩展和变更等优点。例如,可采用通信模块与外部输入输出设备、编程设备、上位机、下位机等进行数据交换;采用D/A模块可以对外部伺服装置直接进行控制;采用计数模块可以对加工工件数量、刀具使用次数、回转体回转分度数等进行检测和控制,采用定位模块可以直接对诸如刀库、转台、直线运动轴等机械运动部件或装置进行控制。
3)独立型PLC的输入、输出点数可以通过I/O模块或插板的增减灵活配置。有的独立型PLC还可通过多个远程终端连接器构成有大量输入、输出点的网络,以实现大范围的集中控制。
在独立型PLC中,那些专为用于FMS、FA而开发的独立型PLC具有强大的数据处理、通信和诊断功能,主要用作“单元控制器”,是现代自动化生产制造系统重要的控制装置。独立型PLC也用于单机控制。

Independent PLC has the following characteristics:
1) Independent PLC has the following basic functional structure: CPU and its control circuit, system program memory, user program memory, input/output interface circuit, interface and power supply for communication with external devices such as programming machines (see Figure 5-2).
2) The independent PLC generally adopts the modular structure of building blocks or cage plug plate structure, and the functional circuits are mostly made into independent modules or printed circuit boards, which have the advantages of easy installation, easy expansion and change of functions. For example, the communication module can be used to exchange data with external input and output devices, programming devices, upper computers, lower computers, etc. The D/A module can be used to directly control the external servo device. The counting module can be used to detect and control the number of machining workpieces, the number of tool use, the number of rotation degrees of the rotary body, etc. The positioning module can be used to directly control the mechanical moving parts or devices such as the tool library, the rotary table, and the linear movement shaft.
3) The input and output points of independent PLC can be flexibly configured through the increase or decrease of I/O modules or plugboards. Some independent PLC can also constitute a network with a large number of input and output points through a number of remote terminal connectors to achieve a wide range of centralized control.
In the independent PLC, those designed for FMS, FA and the development of independent PLC has powerful data processing, communication and diagnostic functions, mainly used as a “unit controller”, is an important control device for modern automated production and manufacturing systems. Independent PLC is also used for single machine control.
